More Than a LinkedIn Profile: Reflections from Our Personal Brand Workshop

Last week, Join Our Table hosted an inspiring workshop on personal branding, led by, Collette Philip Brand by Me.
Personal branding has become something of a buzzword in recent years. Scroll through LinkedIn and you'll find countless articles, templates and AI-generated posts promising to help you build your brand. But this workshop took a different approach. Rather than focusing on visibility or self-promotion, the conversation centred on something far more important: understanding who you are before deciding how you present yourself to the world.
Throughout the session, members were encouraged to reflect on the beliefs, experiences and strengths that have shaped their careers, and how greater self-awareness can provide a stronger foundation for making decisions about work, leadership and future opportunities.
One of the most thought-provoking discussions explored the role our values play in our careers. As members reflected on the principles that matter most to them, it became clear that, despite different backgrounds and experiences, many shared similar themes. It was a powerful reminder that the environments in which we thrive are often those where our values are recognised and respected.
The workshop also challenged members to think differently about purpose. Rather than seeing it as a lofty mission statement, the discussion explored how understanding what motivates us can help us make more intentional decisions about our careers and the opportunities we choose to pursue.
Another key theme was authenticity.
In an age where AI can generate polished content in seconds, it's becoming increasingly difficult to stand out by saying the same things as everyone else. Technology can help us communicate more efficiently, but it can't replace self-awareness. Understanding your own perspective, strengths and the unique way you show up remains one of the most valuable assets you can invest in.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the evening was that personal branding isn't about creating a version of yourself that fits expectations. It's about gaining the confidence and clarity to show up consistently as yourself.

At Join Our Table, we're passionate about creating spaces where women can reflect, learn and grow together. Through practical workshops, honest conversations and a supportive community, our aim is to equip members with the tools, confidence and connections to thrive in their careers.
